2013; Hello 2014!

Happy 2014!!!!

What  things (primarily writer related) happened this past year?

I revised my NA UF novel. Major overhaul.
I wrote a NA contemporary sports romance novel.
I wrote half of a NA contemporary thriller before I had to put it down. The themes are pretty dark and intense, and I had to take a step away from it.
I started my next project (which I am so super excited for).
I made it into #pitchwars and have an excellent team, and gotten some helpful feedback from some awesome people.

I didn't write as much as I planned, honestly, but I started a new job earlier in the year that drastically impacted my writing time.

I found out that Carrie Butler (@carriebutler) has some awesome critting skills and is a great friend. I met @DianaMarieGal and learned that she also has mad critting skills and is super sweet.

What about writing regrets? I definitely regret that I submitted a partial of my contemporary when I did. Those pages have been changed so much, and I wish I had waited.

I fell in love with boxing, kickboxing, mma.  I got really active. I separated my shoulder.  I had a month of limited activity and was on the verge of going crazy. It actually almost made it more difficult to write the book I was writing, because attempting to write about the character's injury made me more of a nutcase. I started training again. I found a part of me that I never expected. I connected to something that I use to not understand at all. I "got it". It's kind of like writing--often times, writers are the only ones who really get why we do what we do.

I have a lot of choices to make this next year. In fact, I might as well start calling 2014 "the year of decisions" now.

What about you? What did you do in 2013 that you'll cherish? Regret? Any resolutions for 2014?

2013 was the year of major life changes -- graduating with my Master's, getting married -- and while I wish 2014 would be a little less intense, I don't think it will be. This year is about finding a career-path job and moving again; about finding a place where both Husband & I can be happy with the job opportunities & the community; we're looking to live some place that supports a more active lifestyle. I've loved this small city, but I'm ready to move back to a big city.

I am, I hope, spending more time writing in 2014. I put it off for two years for grad school, and while that was the right decision, I have to complete the cycle by recommitting myself to creative fiction. I also hope to have you back as a crit partner, and I hope to be a better one to you in the coming year. I've been more than a little unreliable the last 24 months, and that's a personal change I need to make on all levels -- with my own writing & with others'.

Cheers to a new year, Tiger.

Love, Namir
